H1N1 Flu Information & Updates

 H1N1 Influenza Update:

The Cole County Health Department (CCHD), in cooperation with Cole County's wonderful health care providers, continues to put forth extraordinary efforts to protect those most vulnerable in our community against the H1N1 virus. Since November of 2009 CCHD has held a total of 22 H1N1 vaccination clinics where 4,453 doses of vaccine were administered. Since October of 2009 twenty-five organizations in our community have administered some 11,383 doses. CCHD would like to thank our community partners for their spectacular efforts to help administer a total of nearly 16,000 doses.

The H1N1 vaccine is still being offered through local health care providers, private contractors, and walk-ins at the health department on Wednesdays and Thursdays (Click Here for more details on walk-ins). Call your physician to see if they will be carrying the H1N1 vaccine.

Send the Cole County Health Department an email at h1n1questions@colecounty.org or you may call a new toll-free number set up to provide H1N1 flu and vaccine information to Missouri Residents for around-the-clock assistance. Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is this vaccine safe?

  • Yes. The H1N1 vaccine is expected to have a safety profile similar to the seasonal flu vaccine (which has a very good safety track record), because it was produced using the same processes and facilities used to make the seasonal flu
vaccine. Extra steps were taken during the clinical trials to ensure safety. The CDC and FDA will continue to closely monitor the safety of the H1N1 and seasonal flu vaccines.

These are just a few of the questions we've answered. For the complete Frequently Asked Questions, click here.

At this time the public is encouraged to:

  • Practice good hand  hygiene and cough etiquette (washing your hands often and covering coughs and sneezes).

  • Stay away from people who are sick.

  • Stay home from work and/or school when you are sick to avoid spreading your illness to others.
