What is the Adult Head Injury Program?

The Adult Head Injury Program provides assistance to Missouri residence, individuals and families, in locating, coordinating and purchasing rehabilitation and psychological services for individuals who have survived a traumatic brain injury (TBI).

Service coordination is available to adult survivors of TBI regardless of financial status. Individuals may contact a service coordinator or, with consent, may be referred by physicians, family, friends, rehabilitation center, service agencies and support organizations. Rehabilitation service funding is available statewide for those who meet financial eligibility criteria.
What are the services provided through services coordination?
- Evaluation and assessment of needs, information and education regarding the causes and effects of TBI and prevention of secondary clinical conditions.
- Development of a service plan.
- Assistance in locating and accessing medial care, housing, counseling, transportation, rehabilitation, vocational training and cognitive/behavior training.
- Regular evaluation and updates of the service plan?
Who is eligible for rehabilitation services?
- Rehabilitation services are available to individuals who are eligible for service, and whose income is at or below 185% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines. These services may be provided to eligible clients when necessary to facilitate the clients’ achievement of a long-term goal(s) as indicated in the Special Health Care Needs Service Plan. The provision of rehabilitation services must be prior authorized. The Department of Health and Senior Services is payer of last resort. The Adult Head Injury Service Coordinator will assist the client to apply for any other payment resources before submitting requests for use of SCHN funds.

- Neuropsychological Evaluation and Consultation.
- Behavioral Assessment and Consultation.
- Adjustment Counseling.
- Transitional Home and Community Support.
- Pre-Vocational/Pre-Employment Training.
- Special Instruction.
- Socialization Skills Training.
- Transportation.
