  • Prenatal care can help keep you and your baby healthy. Early and regular prenatal care is one of the best ways to promote a happy, healthy baby.

What services does Cole County Health Department offer?

  • Prenatal care is not only medical care for you and your baby, but also includes education and counseling about different stages of your pregnancy and preparing you for delivery. Prenatal care is provided by family nurse practitioners in partnership with local obstetricians.

Who is eligible?

  • Any pregnant woman who qualifies for Medicaid for Pregnant Women is eligible for services. Clients that are NOT eligible for Medicaid for Pregnant Women are referred to a private obstetrician of their choice.

How do I start prenatal care at Cole County Health Department?

  1. You must first have proof of pregnancy. Pregnancy tests are provided at Cole County Health Department.
  • If you are pregnant and un-insured, you may make application for Temporary Medicaid during pregnancy (TEMP).
  • You will then be instructed to go to Family Support Division (FSD) in the county in which you live to make application for Medicaid for Pregnant Women. This must be done prior to starting your care at Cole County Health Department.
  1. Staff will schedule an appointment when your eligibility is determined.

What is Medicaid for Pregnant Women?

Medicaid for Pregnant Women is a MC+ program for US citizens who are pregnant. Non US citizens are not eligible for MC+; however, they may be eligible for Temporary Medicaid.

What is Temporary Medicaid?

Temporary Medicaid during Pregnancy (TEMP) is a program administered by the Missouri Department of Social Services to provide early access to prenatal care to pregnant women for a temporary period until they can apply for and begin receiving full Medicaid benefits.
