2008 Community Health Assessment
In 2005, a comprehensive community
assessment was undertaken in conjunction with strategic planning for the
organization. That report consisted of both primary and secondary data
and incorporated the priorities of staff, leadership and the community.
In 2008, the data was again reviewed
to determine if new priorities were necessary. The content of this
report contains both baseline and trended data for use by the many local
organizations that collaborate with the Cole County Health Department on
community improvement initiatives. Topics addressed in this report, as
in 2005, include social-economics of the community, leading causes of
death emergency room visits, injuries, maternal and child health,
environmental health, mental health, chronic disease and community
protection. The data review indicated that the priorities established in
2005 remain important and the Health Department will maintain its focus
on the issues of Healthy Lifestyles, injuries and Access to Health
Services.
While every issue is not covered; nor
every topic covered at length, data reflecting current trends is
provided as well as progress toward implementing or sustaining
interventions that address various issues. This data is being provided
to ensure that progress toward improved health status is continually
monitored and to offer community partners an opportunity to use this
data in future decision-making regarding provision of programs and
services.
